MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health) helps students in developing their artistic skills, physical and health related skills. In this new normal bought about by the CoVid19 pandemic, it requires combination of innovative strategies, technology integration, and focus on student engagement and well-being. Some of the things to consider in teaching MAPEH subject in the new normal concentrated in shifting to remote learning by utilizing online platforms that is done in asynchronous and synchronous instruction hosted using learning management or educational websites that can hosts resources, assignments, and assessments.

Teachers are required to develop activities that can be completed with minimal materials or substitute household items. MAPEH lessons to enhance learning experiences uses video tutorials for music and dance lessons, virtual tours for arts appreciation and fitness apps or online exercise routines for physical education. Implementation of interactive and collaborative activities promotes student engagements. Use of breakout rooms during virtual classes for group activities which encourage students to create and share their own musical compositions, artwork, or fitness routines and it also enhances peer-to-peer interaction.

Assessment methods are adjusted that will suit the modality being used. Considerations on performance-based assessments through video submissions, reflective journals or peer evaluation is mostly done. Students are also guided in maintaining healthy lifestyles incorporated with mindfulness exercises, relaxation techniques, or mental health lessons that support emotional needs. Involvement of parents are highly encouraged to regularly update them on the activities, and their child’s progress. Teachers should be updated on the latest trends and resources in different teaching strategies to enhance instructional practices. Participation in webinars or online communities is a great help in gaining ideas with other MAPEH educators. Most importantly, being flexible and creative is the key in exploring and developing artistic, physical, and health-related skills both for teachers and students.
